My tools of identification

Of course you need some tools to identify your catch. I allways try to find some new "fish books" where ever i'm travelling. Books are easy to take along to fishing trips and quite often you can find your answers straight from the books.
Internet is another way to identify fish species. FishBase.org is a must for species hunter like me. Another good website is "Marine species identification portal".

Here's some of the books i have:
Reef fish guide books.

Some European and Red Sea fish and diving guides.

American sport fish guides.

My first ever blogpost.

Now it’s finally time for me to start my own blog about fish species hunting. First I want to apologise my rubbish English, but I think that you can at least have a clue what I’m writing about.

I’ve loved fishing for all my short life and I have always liked to catch different kind of fish species. I have also kept a diary about my fishing trips for almost twenty years now. So it’s quite easy to check what, when and where I have caught.

And of course, every fish species are equal for me. It’s always nice to catch big fish, but I can be as happy about four centimeter goby as a two meter catfish. It’s not unusual for me to switch my heavy spinning gear to a small whip rod and a size 26 hook, if I see something small, but interesting, near the shoreline.

About year and a half ago I read about Steve Wozniak, a man who broke the bound of 1000 fish species at 2010 and is now counting over 1100 species. I had found my true idol! I have heard that there’s some another guy called Steve Wozniak too (he has something to do with fruits, or was it computers, I really don’t know).

Speaking about numbers, my own count is now on 102 and I still have few more to identify. I try also to catch as many species as possible from my home country, Finland. I’m now two short of 50 species here.

In this blog I want to share my experiences about fishing and especially fish species.

And you are thinking that my hobby is grazy? Oh yeah, how about those millions of people around the world who are walking at the grass chasing a small, white ball and trying to hit that innocent little ball in to the hole at the ground.
